Seawater desalination refers to a series of processes that remove salt and other dissolved substances from seawater to produce portable, residential, and/or industrial water. For this purpose, a desalination plant is used.

Applies the process that removes ionic substances from seawater using membranes. This process has been used throughout the world since the 1980s. This method requires less energy than the evaporation method.

증기로 해수를 증발시키고 응축하여 담수를 얻는 과정에 대한 도식

Distillers arranged in series evaporate seawater by heating it with the steam generated from the boiler. The vapor generated by distillers is condensed into condensate in the condenser to produce plain water and it is also used as a heat source for the process. The pressure in the distillers is kept lower and lower in the order of process to allow boiling at a lower temperature according to the progress of the process.

MSF (Multi-Stage Flash)

Seawater heated in the high pressure heat exchanger is injected into a low pressure compartment through an orifice, with only the surplus energy of the water being converted into latent heat. The vacuum pressure in the compartments becomes higher in the order of the compartments arranged in series. The operating principle of the desalination process is: when a liquid at a certain temperature is depressurized rapidly below the saturated vapor pressure corresponding to the temperature, the heat contained in the liquid is consumed as latent heat, resulting in self evaporation or flash evaporation.
